BioWare Says That Adding Multiplayer To Mass Effect Legendary Edition Was Just Too Hard

mass effect legendary edition robots bannerMass Effect fans still hoping for a multiplayer feature when the Mass Effect Legendary Edition comes out in May will be woefully disappointed to know that BioWare has scrapped the idea entirely. The developer says that it’s not that they didn’t think about adding multiplayer, it’s just that it’s going to be immensely difficult.

“On the topic of multiplayer, it was just really hard,” Project Director Mac Walters told Game Informer. “Getting all of the online systems working and functionality would have been another large chunk to do but at the same time, there are a lot of other logistics involved. The economy is built completely differently. Then questions came up like, ‘Do we support it post-launch? What about people who are still playing multiplayer today? Do we try to find a way to somehow do crossplay between the PS3 and PS4?’”

With all the work that needed to be put into multiplayer, the entire remastered trilogy would have suffered delays and that wasn’t something the studio was willing to risk, especially for a project that they’ve been wanting to do for a long time.

Mass Effect Legendary Edition comes out on May 14th.
