Ex-Riot Devs Announce New AAA Studio And Teases Next-Gen Open-World Game

Another group of video game industry veterans has decided to form a new AAA studio as former Riot Games executives announce The Believer Company, a.k.a Believer Entertainment. The studio is headed by former Riot Vice President and Executive Producer Michael Chow as its CEO and Riot Co-Founder Steven Snow as its CPO.
The new studio is being bankrolled by Lightspeed Venture Partners, The Walt Disney Company’s former CEO Michael Eisner, and Riot Games itself. “The Believer Company, founded by industry veterans obsessed with players and creating worlds worthy of them, has secured $55 million in Series A financing,” announced the fledgling studio.
“The funding, led by Lightspeed Venture Partners, will initially be put to work building a world-class team to deliver a next-generation open-world game, anchored by an original IP, stories where player choices matter, and gameplay systems that bring players together rather than pushing them apart.”
The new IP won’t just be limited to the video game industry though, as the studio is also eyeing transmedia releases in the future. “Truly great content franchises are not built with a single media type – they need to resonate with their audience across games, film, television, collectibles, and real-world interactive experiences,” said Eisner.
Snow also assured the community that they’re staying away from anything related to cryptocurrency, blockchain, and play-to-earn mechanics, saying that, “We are excited to say ‘no fucking thanks’ to the technologies that won’t make the game more fun.”
We’ll be sure to keep an eye out for this one.
