Automaton Pulls The Plug On Battle Royale MMO Mavericks Due To Lack Of Funding

UK-based Automaton Games has just announced that they have ceased development of their 1000-player battle royale MMO Mavericks: Proving Grounds due to lack of funding. According to a notice on the official site, a pair of insolvency practitioners are now managing the company’s affairs. Their asymmetrical psychological shooter “Deceit”, however, will continue to operate.

“Please be advised that due to insufficient funding, the development of the Mavericks: Proving Grounds game has now ceased. The joint administrators are in the process of licensing the Deceit game so there will be no change in the live operation and provision of this game.”

The unfortunate news comes as a surprise with Alpha tests still in full swing last week and the studio’s recent hiring initiative back in May. Mavericks was first unveiled as Project X back in 2017 and is the second SpatialOS game to shut down this year following Worlds Adrift who officially closed their doors just last Friday.
