Atomic Heart is an upcoming first-person shooter from Russian development studio Mundfish that explores an alternate version of the 1950s where the USSR managed to get hold of hyper-advanced technology following the conclusion of World War II. This has led to the establishment of a seemingly perfect utopian society where robots have made life easier, everyone is happy, and science is king. But progress has its price, and things suddenly take a turn for the worse.

“Robots designed to help humans have rebelled against their creators. Secret experiments have led to the emergence of terrifying mutants,” Mundfish said. “You are Agent Major P-3 and you will have to find out what is really lying behind the utopian dream. Giant machines and bloodthirsty creatures are just a few of the obstacles that stand between you and the completion of your secret mission.”

The game gives off a strong Bioshock vibe from its premise down to its visuals. It’s currently listed as single-player on Steam although the studio has already revealed plans to add PvP multiplayer and possibly a co-op mode. According to PCGamer, the PvP area will be accessible through a secret railway that will transport players to a special region where they can battle other players. The game’s Discord community, however, is extremely skeptical that the game will feature multiplayer at launch if it gets multiplayer at all.

Still, Atomic Heart is probably worth checking out once it launches on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S sometime in Q4 2022.
