Atlas Reactor may be buy-to-play now, but Trion Worlds wants prospective players to be able to check it out for free at any time. It wants "the game to be as accessible as it can be to as many people as possible." In order to make this possible, Trion will be introducing a Free Mode on August 9th.

The Free Mode will allow players to play for free, but they will only be able to use a weekly rotation of Freelancers. Free players will earn caches, which contain cosmetic items, but there will be limits on how often they can open said caches. Buying the game will remove all limits and unlock all Freelancers.

The game is also receiving revised player progression alongside the introduction of the Free Mode. The cash shop will be removed entirely, replaced with a "Collection" menu. In the Collection menu, you will be able to view all cosmetic items you have unlocked.

With the removal of the cash shop, cosmetics will be obtained exclusively through Loot Matrices, of which there is only one type now. Players will receive one Loot Matrix per season level, each of which contains three items. Players will be able to unlock items in the collection for a set amount of ISO, as well, with ISO being obtainable exclusively through Loot Matrices from now on. Duplicate items will be converted to ISO automatically. Basically, cosmetics will be handled very similarly to the way they're handled in Overwatch.

You can find the more information about the player progression revisions on the official website.
