ARK Gets Procedurally Generated Maps, Three New Creatures

ARK: Survival Evolved's latest patch, Patch 248, adds quite the game-changing new feature: infinite procedurally generated maps. Players can modify different settings, such as mountain height, valley depth, the amount of different bodies of water that will be generated, the types of biomes they want to encounter, and more before having the game procedurally generate a map for them.

The update also adds three new creatures. The Kaprosuchus is a "solitary hunter" that likes to pick off those that have wandered away from their group. It is water-based, found primarily in swamps, and is capable of running at high speeds. The Chalicotherium is a peaceful, but territorial herbivore found "in colder regions." The Diplocaulus is "a small amphibian" found primarily in swamps. Survivors use the bladder in its head as an oxygen bag to increase the amount of time they can spend underwater.

  • New Feature: Procedurally Generated ARKs! Generate your very own totally unique, customized or randomized world!
  • New Dinos: Kaprosuchus Paludentium, Diplodocus Insulaprincep, and Chalicotherium Obsideoquus
  • New Mechanics:
    • You can now directly wield your weapons when mount-riding smaller Dinos!
    • Explorer Notes
  • Tree Platforms now have +70% HP and +50% resistance to explosive damage
  • Neuter/Spay Option for Tamed Dinos (irreversible!)
