Amazon Reveals How Invasions Will Go Down In New World
One of the main features of Amazon Game Studios’ upcoming 17th century survival MMORPG, New World, is Invasions. In Invasions, The Corrupted will launch an attack on your settlement and it’s up to you and nine other players to stop them, or at least stall them enough until the timer runs down. This happens every four days. Amazon reveals more in a recent blog post.
“In New World, when the forces of Corruption have amassed enough strength in a Territory, they lay siege to the Fort. This is called an Invasion. During the battle, the defenders must protect their Fort against escalating waves of enemies. If the forces defending the Fort are successful, the Corrupted’s army is repelled and the battle is won. If, on the other hand, the Fort falls, the Territory suffers and loses some upgrades, such as Crafting Stations, Fort gates or Fort turrets.”
To join the Invasion mode, players will first need to sign up at their Settlement Town Board a day before an Invasion. The only requirement is that you need to be level 50 and above. The Territory’s Governor will then get to hand pick 10 players from the list, the rest of the 40 slots will be filled in randomly.
Players who get chosen will get 50 Battle Tokens when the Invasion starts. They can use these tokens to purchase powerful ammunition, potions, explosives, incendiary mines, and turret ammunition. Or, they can choose to save the tokens to build defensive structures during the actual battle. Players will earn additional tokens by performing various activities during the battle such as killing enemies, healing allies, and/or repairing defenses.
During the battle, players must adapt their playstyle to repel different types of enemies. Grunts are weak individually but can overwhelm defenses as a swarm. Raiders are well-equipped shock troops tasked with attacking players first. Snipers pick off players from afar, are extremely evasive, and focus on targets hanging out on the ramparts. Bombers are suicidal and will run up to structures with explosives stuck to their backs. Brutes are huge powerful beasts with the ability to smash structures but will occasionally go for players who annoy them. Players will also go up against a variety of bosses that will either target structures and players and may even apply buffs to The Corrupted or debuffs to players.
To win the Invasion, players must keep the enemy forces from destroying the Fort Claim until the timer runs down. Players who participated in the Invasion will still be rewarded with XP, loot, and in-game currency whether they win or lose. Losing the battle, however, will result in the Territory being downgraded. The higher the Territory level, the more structures get downgraded.
