Albion Online’s Foundations Update Will Add Upgradable Territory Fortifications

Sandbox Interactive continues to build on the recently implemented territory gameplay changes in Albion Online in the free-to-play PvP MMORPG’s aptly called Foundations update. As a follow-up to the new territory raiding system introduced in Crystal Raiders, the studio will soon be adding fortifications that guilds will be able to build and upgrade to fend off attacking guilds.
“Territory Raiding can be difficult to defend against, particularly for smaller guilds,” the studio explains. To give them a fighting chance, they’ll be able to build fortified walls and gates that they’ll be able to upgrade to make them harder to break down and give them more time to rally their forces. The team will also be making territory guards upgradable with unlockable abilities.
In addition to increasing territory defenses, the team also hopes to stimulate stone trading and mix up territory battles with the addition of the new fortifications. They’ll also be expanding the system further down the road with more options for both defenders and attackers.
The update will also be increasing the value of daily reward chests to encourage guilds to strengthen their defenses and be more active in and around their respective territories, hopefully discouraging other guilds from attacking players engaged in PvE activities nearby.
Sandbox Interactive hasn’t announced a timeline for Foundation’s release but game director Robin Henkys says it’ll arrive by the end of the current season. He offers more insight into the upcoming update from the comfort of his iconic director’s couch in the Foundations introduction video below.
