Age Of Water Previews Boat Building And Hostile Factions Ahead Of Its Steam Launch

Gaijin-backed Three Whales Studio is getting the hype train rolling, or in this case, its hype boat, with several Age of Water dev blogs over the past month. The dev blogs offer glimpses of the Waterworld-like survival MMO, including its NPC factions and building a boat from scraps.
Obviously, the first thing that you’ll need is a boat, which will serve as both your means of transportation and your home on the high seas. You’ll also have a floating base, but most of your time will likely be spent aboard your boat as you explore and scavenge for resources across the seemingly endless oceans of Age of Water’s post-apocalyptic world.
Seeing as you’ll practically be living on your boat, it should not only be practical and defensible but should also fit your personal needs and preferences.
“Age of Water gives you the ability to enjoy a broad choice of options while constructing and upgrading your boat and its components tailoring them to your needs,” says the studio. “Assemble a beautiful and practical vessel, and it will help carry you through all the adventure throws at you!”
You can gather building and upgrade materials from the bottom of the ocean, the towering remains of cities, or by capturing another ship from other players or from the NPC factions prowling the oceans. We’ll get to those in a bit. You’ll be free to build out your boat however you like, whether you’re leaning towards a fast-moving skiff or a hulking tank of a vessel. Don’t forget to slap on a literal boatload of guns as you’ll need them more often than you think.
As you make your way across the water-logged world, you’re bound to come across one of the game’s two main NPC factions – the Sharkees and the Order of the Kraken. The Sharkees, as their name suggests, are aggressive fish-like people who won’t hesitate to sink you on sight. The Order of the Kraken are a group of bounty hunters who’ll pretty much do the same except that they’ll have bigger and better guns and gear, and they don’t look like fish.
Age of Water is setting sail for Steam Early Access sometime this quarter. In the meantime, you can learn more about ship building and the game’s hostile factions on the official site. We’ve also embedded the Steam announcement trailer below, which offers a brief glimpse at what the game is all about.
