MultiVersus Kicks Off Season 1 And Reveals Two New Playable Characters

After a few weeks’ delay, MultiVersus Season 1 is now live with an all-new battle pass, a new free character rotation, major progression and balance changes, and new character reveals.

The Season 1 Battle Pass features 50 tiers of rewards to unlock in both the free and premium tracks which include new ringout animations and character skin variants, among other things. Completing all 50 tiers of the free track will unlock LeBron’s exclusive I’m Freakin’ Robin variant along with XP boosts, gold, unique badges, stickers, and icons.

Purchasing the premium track, on the other hand, will automatically unlock Taz’s Toon Squad ’96 variant from the get-go. New taunts, ringout VFXs, and more character variants can also be unlocked as you progress through the reward track, including Task Force X Harley, Flashback Garnet, and Detectives Tom & Jerry, with Bugs Bunny’s Brunhilde the Valkyrie as the final unlock. You can upgrade to the premium track anytime during the season for 950 Gleamium and still get all the rewards you missed.

New legendary cosmetics are also up for sale in the cash shop: Kung Fu Shaggy, Jake the Starchild, and Batman from the The Animated Series.

Season 1 will also see nerfs to three characters that dominated the pre-season: Bugs Bunny, Finn, and Velma. Bugs Bunny’s double rocket cheat has been fixed along with his multiple safe spawn exploit. The infinite Pie duration for his Ground Down Attack has also been reduced to 8 seconds. Finn now spawns with half the amount of gold and will take longer to recover when his attacks miss, while Velma’s Air Side Special’s distance has been decreased and her Air Up Special no longer chains with her Air Down Attack.

Two new characters were also revealed for the smash hit platform brawler alongside its first official season launch: DC Comics’ Black Adam and Stripe from the 1984 horror comedy flick Gremlins. Both characters will be making their debut sometime this year. Black Adam will probably arrive around the time that the Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam hits the big screens on October 21st. Stripes upcoming addition to the roster also fuels rumors that Gremlins 3 might be coming out next year.

Meanwhile, Morty Smith from the animated sitcom Rick and Morty will be making his in-game debut on August 23rd followed by Rick Sanchez later in the season. Arya Stark, Batman, LeBron James, and Steven Universe have also been rotated in as the new free playable characters until the end of the month and the new Classic Arcade and Ranked game modes are now available to play.

MultiVersus Reveals Classic Arcade Mode Coming In Season 1 But Still No Launch Date

Player First Games has yet to announce a definite launch date for the first official season of their smash hit brawer, MultiVersus, after it was delayed last week, but its revealed exactly what’s to come during this weekend’s EVO 2022 fighting game tournament. Most of what was announced is already common knowledge, like the introduction of a ranked mode and the new Rick and Morty playable character, with a few added content to make the wait worthwile.

One of the surprise features announced during the tournament is a classic arcade mode that will be available in both single-player and co-op versus AI. The new game mode will come with several difficulty options and a total of ten stages to fight through. Season 1 will also bring a new set of cosmetic skins, including Bugs Bunny’s Brünnhilde the Valkyrie skin which *cough cough* older readers will probably be very familiar with.

Season 1 was originally scheduled to launch on August 9th but was delayed due to undisclosed reasons with no clear information as to when it will be released. “Stay tuned for an official Season 1 announcement date, coming very soon,” Player First tweeted along with a snapshot of the new content arriving in Season 1. In the meantime, you can check out the full MultiVersus EVO 2022 panel below, if you’ve got time to burn.

MultiVersus Delays Season 1 Launch And Morty Character Indefinitely

Warner Bros. has delayed the first season of its new platform brawler MultiVersus indefinitely with no reason given for the delay. The new Morty playable character, which was supposed to make its debut when Season 1 kicked off on August 9th, has also been subsequently delayed.

“We want to let everyone know that we are delaying the start of Season 1 and the release of Morty to a later date,” the team tweeted. “We know this might be disappointing for some and want to assure our community that we are dedicated to delivering new and exciting content that delights players. We'll let you know the timing as soon as we can. We appreciate your patience and enthusiasm and look forward to unveiling season 1 very soon!”

Season 1 was also supposed to launch with a paid battle pass priced at 950 Gleamium, the game’s premium currency, or around $10 depending on the Gleamium bundle purchased. The battle pass will feature 50 reward tiers to unlock which is roughly similar to the Valorant battle pass and half of the ones in Apex Legends, Fortnite, and Hearthstone. It’s still unclear how long each season will run for and how hard it will be to unlock the rewards.

Due to the delay, the ongoing pre-season and its accompanying battle pass will be extended until August 15th.

Meanwhile, the game continues to gain popularity since its open beta launch last week and currently sits at the 11th spot of Steam’s Most Played Games list. It just missed the cut to gain a spot on the Top 10 by around 3000 players but logged a peak 24-hour player concurrency of nearly 116,000 players.

MultiVersus Logs Over 150k Concurrent Steam Players On Launch Day

Newly-released co-op brawler MultiVersus has proven to be an instant hit, drawing in a huge influx of players on launch day and setting an all-time peak concurrency of over 153,000 players on Steam. That’s just a fraction of the actual concurrency numbers as the data doesn’t account for players on the Xbox and PlayStation family of consoles which mean

Developer Player First Games had a big surprise up its sleeve for players who jumped in on launch day in the form of a new character, NBA superstar LeBron James. For those of you wondering what a basketball player is doing in a Warner Bros. brawler, LeBron starred as himself in Warner Bros. 2021 live-action/animated film Space Jam: A New Legacy.

More characters are planned to be added in the future, including Rick and Morty from the animated sitcom of the same name. Players can also look forward to new content such as new maps, new skins, new outfits, and more. In the meantime, you can watch LeBron James in action as he throws basketballs and slam dunks onto his opponents in the brand new character reveal trailer below.

Warner Bros. Brawler MultiVersus Officially Launches On PC And Consoles

multiversus free to play brawler batman shaggy cinematic still

After giving Founder’s Pack owners a week-long head start, Warner Bros. and Player First Games’ new free-to-play brawler MultiVersus is now live on PC and consoles. Players can now jump in and duke it out in fast-paced 2v2 matches, playing as iconic characters from various Warner Bros. IPs, including Looney Tunes, Scooby Doo, Tom and Jerry, Steven Universe, Adventure Time, Justice League, The Iron Giant, and Game of Thrones.

The game takes several pages out of Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros. book as players fight it out and try to knock each other out of different multi-level arenas. The arenas themselves are inspired by familiar locations such as the Batman’s Batcave, Wonder Woman’s home island of Themyscira, Finn and Jake’s Tree House, and a Haunted Mansion based on the Mystery Inc.’s usual stomping grounds.

Since MultiVersus is a free-to-play game, players will need to unlock individual characters using in-game currency that can be earned as they participate in matches. More characters and maps will be added in future updates. Based on datamined information, the next character coming to the brawler might be Rick Sanchez from the animated sitcom Rick and Morty who will be making his debut along with the new Cromulon map.

MultiVersus is free-to-play on PC via Steam and Epic Games Store as well as on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. As we noted before, the game is surprisingly absent from the Nintendo Switch but reportedly works quite well on the Steam Deck even without being officially rated for the portable console.
