Alliance of Valiant Arms Reboot AvA Dog Tag 2nd Closed Beta Begins Jan 18

Alliance of Valiant Arms is rebooting as AvA: Dog Tag and its second closed beta is set to begin on January 18th and will run until the 31st. Anyone interested in checking the game out during this period can get closed beta keys here. The relaunched version will feature new features, modes, maps, and more.

Red Duck, the game's new publisher and current developer, also aims to kickstart an eSports scene for the game by partnering with ESL. Given the game's age and numerous previous shut downs (first with ijji, then Aeria Games, then En Masse), I suspect it won't have much success in eSports.

Red Duck is also working on redesigning and upgrading the functionality of the UI and in-game HUD. The HUD now shows more detailed analysis of damage dealt and taken as well as additional information about each round played. The UI redesign is almost completed and will contain various new functions. Based on feedback from the community, the game will also include a separate option to manually set the Field of View.

In addition to these quality-of-life improvements the new game version will also feature several gameplay changes including improved weapon sound quality, new voice lines, weapon balancing and the new map "DUAL SIGHT", which will be available for both the Demolition and Annihilation game modes.

Red Duck is furthermore aiming to establish the game in professional eSports leagues and is currently in talks with the ESL.

Activision And Bungie Are Splitting Up, Bungie To Take Over Destiny Publishing

destiny 2 banner

Bungie was founded in 1991, but came to global fame after it was purchased by Microsoft in 2000 and the release of Halo: Combat Evolved in 2001. As the years went by, the relationship with Microsoft grew dull. In 2007, Bungie split from Microsoft and became an independent studio once more. The terms of that divorce meant Microsoft got to keep the Halo IP, forcing Bungie to come up with a new one: Destiny.

To help launch their new project, Bungie made the dubious decision to sign a 10-year publishing contract with Activision, but now the two companies have announced that the relationship is coming to a premature end. A joint statement released on the official Activision twitter account makes the split official. Bungie released a lengthier post on their official site outlining the split. While the full terms of this early termination have not yet been made public, we do know that Bungie is getting custody of Destiny.

The breakup is a bit complicated due to the fact that the PC version of Destiny 2 is currently hosted on the Battle.net launcher under the Activision label along with Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. It has not yet been made clear whether PC players will have to migrate their Destiny 2 accounts away from Battle.net.

Why the sudden split? Many sources who have followed the Activision/Bungie partnership have stated that it has been rocky for years now. But a more likely catalyst is that Bungie has once again found a more alluring suitor. This time its NetEase, China's second biggest gaming company. NetEase made a $100 million investment in Bungie last year, and we suspect a stronger partnership between the two to emerge as 2019 continues.

Mavericks Dev Blog Talks About Plans For The First Months Of 2019

mavericks house sceneAfter a quiet holiday break, Automaton Games is back with the latest development news on their upcoming battle-royale game Mavericks. A recently published dev blog outlines the studios plans for the game in the first two months of 2019. The first of which is an update schedule change from Thursdays to Tuesdays with the first one happening on January 8th. January also marks the final month of the games technical test.

“Our first Core Update [will offer] players a real taste of the Mavericks experience, showcasing why the game is so different in contrast to other conventional Battle Royales. We'll be revealing and introducing the essentials of the Mavericks social space, linking our open world and battle royale gameplay. We know the game hasn't so far offered much of the fun gameplay we're all waiting for and the feedback from the community has been immensely helpful in getting the nuts and bolts of Mavericks ready. Building the game in this new method has been challenging and difficult, but will enable huge opportunities that previously have not been achieved by other studios.”

The Hunted & Hunter Core update will roll out in February and will introduce new features into the game. These include tracking, gunplay, items, and more. The devs promise to go into further detail in the next few weeks starting with next week’s dev blog.

The devs are also looking to add more players into the game sometime in the near future. “We will also be inviting those players that signed up during our E3 announcement,” says Automaton. “Adding a potential 100,000 new players to The Forge is sure to further intensify gameplay and add further challenges to players.” The first Founder’s cosmetic item is also slated for release, the details and images of which will also be doled out in the coming weeks.

ROSE Online Is Shutting Down On Feb 11, 2019

Its been a good run. Rush On Seven Episodes aka ROSE Online, will be shutting down on February 11, 2019. WarpPortal, the Gravity owned publisher that hosts the game, made the announcement today via the Rose Online Facebook page.

The in-game item mall is already closed, and players who still have points in-game will be able to transfer them to other WarpPortal PC MMORPGs including Ragnarok Online, Ragnarok Online 2, Record of Lodoss War Online, Dragon Saga, or Requiem. Premium currency transfer requests will be accepted until March 1, 2019 so get it done before those points expire. Effected players can use this link to file a support ticket to initiate the transfer.

Rose Online has been struggling for years, the game never got around to releasing all 7 'episodes', as the game's planets were called. As one of the first Korean MMORPGs to make it to the West, way back in 2005, many of today's MMO gamers still have fond memories of the 3D anime-inspired title. There are still several private servers for the game running, veterans seeking nostalgia still have a place to turn.

Bless Online Gets A New Endgame Dungeon And New Cosmetics

bless online wise ones mausoleumLet’s face it, we’re all silently rooting for Bless Online to succeed especially considering the rocky journey it’s been through. Well, it looks like Neowiz has things pretty much under control and is looking to start the new year right with a big in-game event and a new endgame dungeon.

“This update is designed to test the skill of max-level players. The Wise Ones’ Mausoleum Elite dungeon has a recommended party number of five players and offers some of the best possible gear in the game, including an all-new legendary helmet.

2019’s first big in-game event is starting too, and it’s all about the Basel Gorge. Starting after the patch is deployed on January 9th, players will be rewarded with Certificates of Valor when they defeat monsters in Basel Gorge or when they complete any of the Basel Gorge daily quests. Players can then use the Certificates of Valor to craft a variety of Lucky Chests.”

The Division 2 Passes On Steam In Favor Of Epic Games Store; System Requirements Revealed

the division 2 capitol burningWe’ve all been expecting Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 to launch on Steam right? Ubisoft even has a Steam landing page all set up for the game’s launch this March. Well, turns out that the Ubisoft has had a sudden change of heart and will not be launching The Division 2 on Steam. The Steam landing page has also since been removed.

Ubisoft Vice President Chris Early announced in an interview with VentureBeat today that they will be distributing the upcoming MMO shooter exclusively through UPlay and through Epic Games’ recently launched Epic Games Store. The game’s Steam landing page has since been removed.

“We entrust Epic to deliver a smooth journey for our fans, from preordering the game and enjoying our Beta to the launch of Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 on March 15. Epic continues to disrupt the video game industry, and their third party digital distribution model is the latest example, and something Ubisoft wants to support.”

Valve’s game distribution platform, Steam, has been ruling the market for years but it looks like it just found itself a worthy competitor especially since Epic Games offers a better revenue split compared to Valve. Epic Games will take just 12% of the cut from games that earn more than $10 million, while Valve takes 20%.

Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 is now available for pre-order on both UPlay and Epic Games Store starting today. Players who pre-order the game will be guaranteed access to the upcoming closed beta test regardless of whether they purchased the game through Ubisoft or through Epic.

Meanwhile, the developers have also published the official system requirements for the game along with a PC Features video to remind the gaming community that the PC version of The Division 2 is not a console port but a separate game that’s being worked on alongside the console versions.
