The game has been available on mobile for some time already and is looking to expand its playerbase with a PC client. The official announcement was posted on the game's Facebook page. As the year comes to a close, The Elder Scrolls Online Creative Director Rich Lambert pens a letter to the community looking back on the past year. 2019 marks the game’s fifth anniversary and the first time that the online fantasy MMORPG combined multiple releases into a year-long narrative called the Season of the Dragon. 2019 is also the year that Lambert got his first tattoo as part of the Elsweyr announcement stream back in January.
“As it was our five-year anniversary, we wanted 2019 to be big and memorable. It featured a massive year-long adventure that focused on the homeland of the Khajiit, Dragons, and the new Necromancer class. This was the first time we’d combined all of the year’s releases (Wrathstone, Elsweyr, Scalebreaker, and Dragonhold) into a single, continuous narrative, and we’re thrilled with all of the positive reactions to it.”
Lambert continues to outline the challenges they faced including performance issues that still need to be resolved. “The performance roadmap we shared in July this year was a good step toward showing how committed we are to improving things,” he says. “We’ll continue to focus on performance in the coming year and will keep the roadmap updated monthly to ensure you are all in the loop.”
He concludes the letter with a heartfelt thanks to the community and a promise of exciting things to come in 2020, starting with the “Dark Heart of Skyrim” Chapter announcement stream in Las Vegas on January 16th. The stream will be the first information drop since the upcoming chapters was first teased during this year’s The Game Awards.

Earlier this month, indie-developer IF Studios revealed the details of a new tutorial zone called the Island coming to their in-development sci-fi sandbox MMORPG, The Repopulation. The island was supposed to roll out within the month but was continually delayed as the developers hit one issue after another.
The studio now says that they’re ready to roll out the first phase of the island with the upcoming holiday patch. The patch goes live on January 1st and will feature basic content for the island including old missions that have partly been updated for use with the new tutorial system. “The flow will feel a bit splintered at this moment,” warns the studio. “This is because we are using the old current missions in the game with some adjustments. Expect the missions to change and adjust with each subsequent update until we do have the new systems and missions in the game.”
New missions will be added in the future along with a Modular UI, an Inventory and Container system, and the option to choose between different Nations and Factions. The end result will be choosing your Nation once you finish your basic training on the Island,” says FI Studios. “There will be additional optional content if you wish to complete, but you will choose your Nation before leaving the island instead of at character creation.”
Cloud Imperium has just released the Alpha 3.8 Update for Star Citizen called New Frontiers. The massive update features a boatload, or should I say, shipload of new features and content as well as a new frozen planet called microTech and the final explorable planet in the Stanton System.
“The home and HQ of the eponymous mega-corporation (makers of the mobiGlass among countless other things) was rendered mostly frozen by a terraforming accident and is now battered by brutal weather and unrelenting storms. Travelers should be warned that while New Babbage is certainly worth exploring, the weather outside is decidedly frightful most times of the year.”
Alpha 3.8 also sees the introduction of melee combat, new weapons, new missions, a law system, ship impounding, procedural-generated Rest Stops, multiple spawn locations, and the new Argo mining ship, The MOLE.
In addition, the update also comes with improved planetary visuals, new weather effects, and the addition of SOCS (Server Object Container Streaming). “The Star Citizen universe is vast, with dozens of planets, moons, and stations to explore, each packed with incredible detail,” says the devs. “Of course, the Stanton system is merely the tip of the iceberg - SOCS allows us to keep expanding and optimizing our ever-growing galaxy well into the foreseeable future.”

As ArenaNet signs off for their annual holiday break, the studio looks back at what Guild War 2 players have achieved during the past year which includes rocking out to almost 10,000 Metal Legion concerts, cooking nearly 1,000,000 ascended meals, participating in over 200,000 mount races, and getting knocked out 63,000,000 times, and of course, getting back up the same number of times.
“In 2019, you brought down Kralkatorrik, defeated Qadim the Peerless, attended the biggest charr party ever as a guest of honor, and faced treachery in the Far Shiverpeaks. You’ve befriended skyscales, bonded with Raven, tackled four Strike Missions, and kicked back at festivals throughout the year.”
The studio also promises to continue the monthly update cadence into the first quarter of 2020 starting with a revamped Lunar New Year event with new activities and rewards coming after the devs come back from their holiday break. “Historically, this celebration has been smaller,” says Content Designer Joe Kimmes, “but this coming year we’re taking the first steps to bring it to parity with its fellow Tyrian holidays.”
A major PvP and Word vs. World balance update is also slated for release in the first quarter of 2020 along with a new type of content for the Living World called Visions of the Past which should give players a different perspective on the young Charr Champion, Ryland Steelcatcher.
“Scry into the past and witness what life is like as a member of Ryland’s elite Steel Warband. Armed with the finest charr technology, the group will head into deadly snowstorms, dwarven ruins, and even explore the Darkrime Delves.”
Lastly, Episode 2 of the Icebrood Saga “Shadow in the Ice” will be coming out on January 28th. Check out the teaser video below. You can also head over to the Guild Wars 2 official site to learn more.
