A look at MMO News and updates for the week ending January 21, 2019. This is episode 183 in a weekly series every Monday that will cover all major MMO news and updates. The games covered this week were: Kurtzpel, Elder Scrolls Online, MapleStory 2, MapleStory, LEgends of Aria, Record of Lodoss War Online, Shot online, Ragnarok Online 2, Tree of Savior, Tera, Closers, The Division 2, and Superdata Research. Links to individual news articles we covered this week:
Less than a week after announcing that Rose Online would be shutting down, WarpPortal made it known via the official forums that development on Ragnarok Online 2 has ended as of January 16, 2019.
The forum post made it clear that while development would cease, the game is not closing down. Players will be able to continue enjoying the game, but with no further events or updates. The cash shop will also remain open, meaning the studio currently has no plans to shut the game down.
Since May 1st, 2013 we have explored Ragnarok Online 2 together. In that time, it has gone through many evolutions. It would not be what it is today had it not been for the community and the team who has worked hard every day to make it the best that it can.
Unfortunately, it is with deep regret that we must announce that Ragnarok Online 2 will not be receiving any further support. Ragnarok Online 2 has struggled as of late, but in the last few years it was thankfully given new life thanks to outside funding. However, despite all the hard work, Ragnarok Online 2 did not meet expectations. This has regretfully resulted in the removal of the development team assigned to Ragnarok Online 2.
Since we know so many still enjoy Ragnarok Online 2, the game will remain open, but without a development team it will remain as it is and will not be receiving any further development, for updates or events. We want to thank everyone who has worked on Ragnarok Online 2 since the servers went live.
Responding to a series of questions posted on the forums, a staff member left this response:
Hello everyone,
I am just going to be popping in and helping to answer some questions that have been posted here.
- At this time, we do not expect there to be further in game events.
- The kafra shop will remain open as is.
- Further development for RO2 is being discontinued, including any updates that were previously being worked on.
- Warpportal will still be handling player reports via the ticket system. There will still be GMs monitoring and responding to player tickets, and removing players who are cheating from the game.
While this news isn't as dire as the one regarding Rose Online, it seems clear that WarpPortal has started to clean house by moving resources away from older game that can no longer carry their weight. WarpPortal published Dragon Saga and Requiem could also be in danger.

Let’s keep the Breach hype going shall we? In celebration of the game’s Steam Early Access launch, QC Games has released a brand new gameplay video trailer spotlighting the Sniper, a hard-hitting class that combines magic and technology to take out mythological baddies from afar and stop them in their tracks when needed.
“The Sniper class employs magical boosts to make sure each shot locks in with deadly precision on their enemies in a multitude of ways: from the Vortex Slug, a slow moving shot that creates a vortex on impact, pulling enemies together, to the Snare Trap, which holds enemies in place and applies damages, and to the Snipe signature ability, targeting opponents and eliminating them where they stand with high single-target damage. Timing the use of each Sniper ability will enable players to ruthlessly obliterate monsters with marksman-like efficiency.”
If you’re still on the fence, then watching the Sniper in action might just give you the push you need. Check it out right after the jump.
Got $9 billion to spare? That’s exactly how much a South Korean gaming giant is going for these days. Earlier this month, Nexon founder and Kim Jung-ju announced his plans to sell his 98.64% stake in the holding company NXC Corp. NXC Corp. controls 47.98% of Nexon along with two other cryptocurrency exchanges.
GamesIndustry.biz reports that the controlling shares are now officially up for sale. Investment banks Deutsche Bank and Morgan Stanley will be facilitating the deal and are now officially accepting bids. Activision, EA, Disney, and TenCent are just some of the companies interested in the deal along with a few US investment firms such as Carlyle, KKR, and TPG.
Contrary to popular belief and TV dramas, billion dollar deals don’t just happen overnight. So stay tuned and we’ll keep you posted as the whole thing unfolds.
Waiting to get your hands on The Elder Scrolls Online: Elsweyr Collectible Edition and the Elsweyr swag that comes with it? Well, I hate to break this to you, but Bethesda Softworks won’t be releasing a physical collectible edition for the upcoming chapter.
🐈 Elsweyr Update 🐈
We decided to move away from requiring our most loyal, invested players to purchase a full version of the game every year in order to get the physical Collector's Edition goodies, so we decided not to release a physical CE for Elsweyr. (1/2)
That doesn’t mean that you won’t be getting collector’s items this year though. In fact, Bethesda is looking at other ways to distribute collector’s items without requiring players to purchase the game. As expected, the news received mixed reactions from the ESO community. Personally, I don’t mind paying for a collector’s edition if it comes with a cool dragon statue. But that’s just me. Let us know what you think on the comments section below.

The latest Dauntless patch cranks the temperature up in the Shattered Isles with a brand new Dire Behemoth. Slayers who can take the heat can now hunt down and go toe to toe with Scorchstone Helion with the launch of Patch OB 0.6.4.
“Scorchstone Hellion has been burning it up in the Maelstrom. Be careful if you choose to pursue this quarry – its command of lava makes it an especially deadly Dire Behemoth.”
The patch also introduces new curly hairstyles and new character customization sliders. Update your character’s look by interacting with the mirror in Ramsgate Plaza. Aside from new customization options, the update also brings with it a new UI for crafting potions and grenades as well as Middleman purchases. There’s also quality of life improvements and a ton of bug fixes.
The lucky guys over at IGN are at it again with 10 minutes of new Anthem gameplay footage featuring the high-level mission called Hidden Depths. The gameplay video covers the whole mission but was edited for pacing. Don’t worry you’ll still get to see the important parts along with story narratives to keep things in context.
The 10-minute video should give players an overview of the Interceptor, Storm, and Collosus’ playstyles as well as how a Javelin team works together during combat. Go ahead and check out the video right down below.
