Nexon’s share prices have taken an unexpected hit after a local newspaper reported that Kim Jung-ju has changed his mind about selling his controlling stake in the tech giant. According to Bloomberg, the company’s share prices have gone down as much as 5% bringing Kim’s stake valuation down from $8.6 billion to $6.1 billion.
Back in January, Nexon made headlines in both the gaming and business circles when founder Kim Jung-ju announced his intentions to sell controlling stake of the company. Over the next few months, a number of high-profile game development studios were reported to have submitted bids including EA, Amazon, Kakao Games, Netmarble, and Tencent. By June, it looked like Kakao, Netmarble, and a number of private equity firms were on top of the list of potential Nexon owners.
A recent article on The Korea Economic Daily, however, has sparked rumors that Nexon won’t be pushing through with the sale. According to the article, anonymous sources told the newspaper that Kim Jung-ju had a change of heart and had asked the involved banks to pass on the news to the bidders. The article also reported that negotiations have failed because of disagreements on the purchase price.
Nexon has yet to respond to the report. We’ll keep you in the loop as the Nexon drama unfolds.

When Bethesda Games rolled out the new battle royale Nuclear Winter game mode a few weeks ago, they initially intended it as a limited-time pre-beta teaser during the Fallout 76 Free Trial Week. The game mode, however, proved to be so successful that Bethesda decided to keep it in the game indefinitely. Well, Nuclear Winter has officially transitioned from an extended pre-beta teaser to actual beta testing with the release of Patch 10.5.
The update also introduces a number of design changes to the battle royale mode. Players can now customize their appearance in Nuclear Winter by favoriting one Headwear item, one Underarmor, and one Outfit from the Atomic Shop. Automatic Combat Rifles can now be looted from Small Supply Crates and Submachine Guns from both Medium and Small Supply Crates. The Supply Crate density has also been lowered in areas where more crates were spawning compared to others.
In addition, the Dead Man Sprinting Perk has been reworked and should now be functioning as intended. Action Points now drain 25% slower when you’re below 30% HP. A “More Info” button to reopen the Perk Card Tutorial has also been added to the Perk Card menu and new entries added to ZAX Terminals for players with Overseer Rank 100.
Patch 10.5 also brings with it quality of life improvements and bug fixes for Adventure and Survival Mode. Check out the full patch notes on the Fallout 76 official site.
Epic Games and their recently launched Epic Games Store has been the topic of many debates and controversies especially among die-hard Steam fans on the subject of their growing library of exclusive games. Epic Games founder and CEO Tim Sweeney defends the Game Store's for exclusive titles in a series of posts on Twitter.
“We believe exclusives are the only strategy that will change the 70/30 status quo at a large enough scale to permanently affect the whole game industry,” tweeted Sweeney. “If the Epic strategy either succeeds in building a second major storefront for PC games with an 88/12 revenue split, or even just leads other stores to significantly improve their terms, the result will be a major wave of reinvestment in game development and a lowering of costs.”
Sweeney also believes that their strategy, although unpopular among dedicated Steam users, will benefit gamers in the long run. “I believe this approach passes the test of ultimately benefitting gamers after game storefronts have rebalanced and developers have reinvested more of their fruits of their labor into creation rather than taxation.”
For example, after years of great work by independent stores (excluding big publishers like EA-Activision-Ubi), none seem to have reached 5% of Steam’s scale. Nearly all have more features than Epic; and the ability to discount games is limited by various external pressures.
With the Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers launch looming on the horizon and the Early Access start just a few days away, Square Enix is keen on keeping the hype train rolling. A new dev blog gives fans a glimpse at some of the changes coming to PvP with the upcoming expansion.
As part of the updated PvP mechanics for Shadowbringers, the devs will be removing the TP system along with PvP Traits. “Our original intention with the PvP trait system was to allow for unique playstyles, but we found that players tended to select the same traits when playing certain jobs,” explains Neha “Ridrina” Nair of the Community Team. “Instead of focusing on PvP traits as the defining point of playstyle, we reworked each roles' additional actions. This will provide more options for players when selecting actions that complement their playstyle.”
You’re probably wondering how the new Gunbreaker and Dancer jobs will fit into the PvP scene right? Don’t worry, both jobs will be usable in PvP but, like other jobs, will have different actions for PvE and PvP. In addition, the rest of the jobs will also be getting a major PvP action overhaul. “There will be brand-new actions as well as changes to old actions,” says Ridrina. Some jobs may find that their playstyle has changed quite a bit as a result!”
