Project Genom Introduces Open World, New Leveling System Soon

projectgenomopenworld2

In the two months that the Unreal Engine 4-powered MMO shooter Project Genom has been in Founder's Pack supported alpha, it has seen a considerable amount of progress. All of that progress has culminated into the game's first major milestone being hit. As of today's update, players can now explore the seamless open world of Project Genom. The game world has been expanded a staggering 16 times in the past two months and now, for the first time, you can experience it without loading screens.

Progression based on modifications to internal organs is set to be introduced in the near future. Players will be able to unlock various active and passive skills by choosing to stay human, replace your organs with synthetic implants, or become a mutant. Skill points earned by installing implants and developing them can then be spent on the various skills made available based on your build.

Furthermore, diseases can be caught while traveling the world. These will affect players' organs and begin to lock the skills that that organ provides. If left untreated, the disease will affect more organs and eventually "destroy the whole organism."

Black Desert Online Korea GPU Test Results Conducted

blackdesertalpha

Black Desert Online is a fairly graphically intensive game. If you've ever wondered just how graphically intensive it is, perhaps this chart might help. This chart—created by the Korean hardware community CoolEnjoy—was recently posted on a Facebook fanpage for Black Desert and then shared on Reddit. The tests were conducted on the Very High preset with High texture quality at 1920x1080 on a computer with an i7-4770K overclocked to 4.5 GHz, 8 GB of 2133 MHz DDR3 RAM, and Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. To maintain a solid 60 frames per second on average in this environment, it was determined that you would need at least an AMD R9 290 4GB or an NVIDIA GTX 780 Ti 3GB. You can see the exact results in the image below.

The original Reddit poster notes that these tests may not be accurate in the current NA/EU build. Optimizations are said to have been made in a recent patch for the KR version and these may be affecting the results slightly. Regardless of the case, there is no doubt that Black Desert has some fairly steep requirements.

Clash Of Kings Breaks 100 Million Downloads

clashofkings2

Just hearing the name Clash of Kings gives the impression that it is a Clash of Clans clone, but today's news proves that, on some level, that doesn't really matter. ELEX announced today that their mobile social strategy title has broken 100 million downloads. This figure was reached after a mere 16 months on the market.

In addition to reaching 100 million downloads, Clash of Kings was crowned Facebook's Game of the Year. It has also been top grossing in 100 countries. Chief Producer Peng Yue attributes this success to the fact that the game "works on most [...] platforms."

Are you one of the 100 million that downloaded it?

Fallensouls: Fire War Is A New Windows Phone MMORPG

fallensoulsfirewar

I don't know anyone that owns a Windows Phone. Not a single person. I don't think I've ever even seen a Windows Phone that wasn't a display unit. But that isn't stopping developers from making games for Microsoft's unfortunate platform. Today, Miracle Games announced the launch of their Windows Phone MMORPG, Fallensouls: Fire War. The studio has an impressive pedigree of ex-Supercell Oy, EA Mobile, Ubisoft, Chillingo, Glu, and Gameloft employees, among others.

Not much information is given about the game. From the screenshots on the Facebook page, it appears to be a fairly generic browser MMO. It looks like the kind of MMO that has nice enough graphics, no customization, and allows you to run around a game world in isometric view before diving into auto-resolving battles. Your race choices are "a noble human, a bloodthirsty orc or one of the mighty undead."

On the subject of their chosen platform, the studio's own Michael Leader said "'Fallensouls: Fire War' as our starter Windows phone product, sufficiently proves that we are optimistic about the prospects for an exception in the Windows market, we are committed to the United Kingdom before domestic market development and expansion. Until earlier this year, Microsoft officially announced the releasing of Windows10, we realized, for us this will be a great opportunity. So five months later, we officially released the first Windows platform product 'Fallensouls: Fire War'." They may be "optimistic about the prospects for an exception in the Windows market," but it remains to be seen whether Fallensouls will, in fact, be an exception.

dragonsdogmaalchemist-long

Capcom Online Games has released a new trailer for their upcoming Season 1.3 Update of Dragon's Dogma Online which features a brand new Alchemist Class. Similar to the likes of Full Metal Alchemist, the class seems to be able to manipulate the matter around them into a destructive array that suits their needs. The update is scheduled for Spring 2016, but no official date has been released yet.

Dragon's Dogma Online is currently only available in Japanese, but we'll keep you up to date on any news of a Western release.

You can check out the official Japanese website here.

Breath of Fire 6 To Launch Early 2016

breathoffire6-long01

After over 13 years of hiatus the long beloved Breath of Fire Franchise is back with a vengeance. Breath of Fire 6 has revived and moved the series on from its console roots to the Online PC/Mobile space that features 4-player Online Multiplayer, a first for the JRPG series. The game is scheduled to launch onto Android devices on February 23rd of 2016 and onto iOS on March 2016.

The game features 8 races and the re-imagined cast with Ryuu and Nina making their appearance once again. The theme song to the game is called "In Our Hands" and is sung by Haruka Tomatsu, the voice talent behind Asuna Yuuki (Sword Art Online) and Cure Fortune (HappinessCharge! Pretty Cure).

I have high hopes for this game and I pray that it can wash the bad taste of Breath of Fire V: Dragon's Quarter out of my memory forever!

Sunday Funday Round 32 - Tribes: Ascend

Tribes Ascend Gameplay - Sunday Funday Round 32

Tribes: Ascend Sunday Funday Gameplay Video

Played some Tribes: Ascend with Erhan, Matt, Shurelia, and Sean this week for Sunday Funday. The week's game was Tribes: Ascend from Hi-Rez Studios, the same company best known for Smite and Paladins. The game originally launched April 12, 2012 as a free to play title with microtransactions, but it never took off. Many original Tribes fans didn't seem to like the sequel, but most of us found it entertaining. It's vastly different from the countless generic "tactical" shooters like Point Blank, Blackshot, and Alliance of Valiant Arms.
