Honkai: Star Rail Earns $42m in First Week While Still Dominating the App Store Rankings

Honkai: Star Rail, the cross platform sci-fi gacha RPG from HoYoverse, earned a over $42m in its first week since launching on April 26, 2023 and shows zero signs of slowing down. As of today the figure is up to over $50m. The game is currently in the top 5 of highest grossing mobile games in South Korea, Japan, and China (the 3 of the world's most lucrative gaming markets). Surprisingly, Honkai: Star Rail is also doing incredibly well in the United States and is sitting at the #6 spot on May 6th. Keep in mind, this revenue figure is only looking at mobile. The game is available on PC as well.

I've personally been playing quite a bit of Honkai: Star Rail since launch and have been enjoying it. Despite being a gacha RPG, players don't need to spend any money to progress in the game. It's very much free to play friendly. It's also worth mentioning that Honkai: Star Rail is almost entirely a single player game. It looks and feels like a high quality JRPG.

HoYoverse, the company best known for the smash hit Genshin Impact, has announced the official launch of its highly anticipated space fantasy RPG, Honkai: Star Rail, on April 26, 2023. The game will be available on PC, Epic Games Store, iOS, and Android with a PlayStation version launching in the near future.

Honkai: Star Rail offers a journey through a vast universe filled with diverse cultures, landscapes, and scenery. The game combines fantasy elements with myths and legends to create a unique space sci-fi story. Players can look forward to an intuitive turn-based combat system, large maps with maze exploration, and immersive storylines that echo throughout the cosmos.

The Boarding Preparation Special Program also revealed multiple rewards and in-game bonuses, such as 40 Star Rail Passes and 1600 Stellar Jade for reaching certain Trailblaze Levels. Several documentaries previewed exclusive footage, featuring the development team and experts sharing behind-the-scenes stories of Honkai: Star Rail, the creation of Xianzhou Luofu, and the integration of eastern elements with sci-fi philosophies.

HoYoverse, makers of the popular mobile action RPG Genshin Impact, announced today that their newest game, Honkai: Star Rail, officially began taking closed beta signups. Honkai: Star Rail is the newest game in the Honkai series after Honkai Impact 3rd and is a turn based RPG. Like Genshin Impact, it will be available on PC, Android, and iOS. The turn based gameplay coupled with the game's emphasis on storytelling gives off JRPG vibes. The closed beta trailer below also highlights the importance of player choice in advancing the story.

Unfortunately no word on when closed beta begins exactly, but given the gameplay reveal below it shouldn't be too far off. The game's visuals look excellent and since its developed by the folks behind Genshin Impact, I have high hopes.
