Each year myriad MMOs are added to an ever-expanding library, while older games are sentenced to the graveyard. Some MMOs are kept alive by their communities, or re-licensed to a new publisher, but others fade into the void where almost no trace of their virtual worlds can be found.
In 2015 a few game's server lights blinked off for the last time:
Soldier Front 2
Archlord 2
RaiderZ
Ether Saga
Hellgate: London
Dragon's Prophet
Asda 2
Triad Wars
Wrath of Athena
There are many games I remember fondly. Looking back I was disappointed when Battlefield 2142's official servers were shut down (I'm a sucker for mechs). And while Star Wars Galaxies has innumerable private servers nothing quite captures the original giddy excitement of entering a galaxy far, far away. But the perfect basement LAN game was GunZ: The Duel. Unfortunately its sequel wasn't the same.
Exteel's shut down left the deepest wound. I had a blast gliding across maps in a pseudo-Gundam while jealously looking at players who could afford to rent better weapons. It was a blast to play locally and I spent hours grinding matches just for fun.
