Camelot Unchained Delays Alpha

After previously teasing at their upcoming ability crafting system, the staff at Camelot Unchained became the bearer of bad news earlier today. In a news post on the official site, Mark Jacobs of City State Entertainment stated that the anticipated alpha would have to be anticipated for a little while longer.

Jacobs wrote that the team worked from 10 am to practically midnight, but was unable to find the cause of a crashing bug and a problem within their database queries. While they could have just continued on as planned, the presence of these problems prevented them from doing so. "'Faking it' or simple extending our deadline by a few days is, quite frankly, unacceptable for us."

The alpha will therefore be delayed while the staff track down and correct the crashing and database issues. Compensation will be given out due to the "alpha guarantee" attached to Camelot Unchained's policy. A new alpha date will be announced within a few days for those anxiously awaiting further news. Jacobs has also stated that further delay will most likely result in further compensation.

As he put it, "if we think the delay will be more than a week, well, we have something to show our alpha folks that will take some of the sting out of it."

Guild Wars 2 Details Their Camera Upgrades

After announcing that players would be able to zoom into first-person view, Arena Net has also revealed a new feature that they call "collision sensitivity". On the latest dev diary, programmer Branden Gee went into detail about how the new camera system would improve gameplay all around.

He mentions that the staff knows about issues with camera claiming that, "[they've] all been there—you’re running along, happily dispatching ambient rabbits, when suddenly a small tree comes between your camera and your character, causing the camera to snap in very close and completely ruin your immersion. Well, [they]  fixed this!"

The collision sensitivity settings will allow players to adjust how much of background elements (such as trees, walls, rocks, etc.) needs to be between you and the camera before the camera snaps in. There are numerous sliders that allow for customization and optimization for each player. These changes are coming very soon, so any and all complaints about the in game camera should hopefully disappear with them. A sample of the camera settings can be viewed below.

WoW to Introduce Gold and Game Time Tokens

Blizzard just announced that there will be a new form of currency available to World of Warcraft players known as a "WoW Token". These tokens will be purchasable with real money and then can be resold for gold on the auction house. After purchasing a token from the auction house, the token itself will become soulbound and then redeemable for 30 days of game time.

While a set price has not be announced yet for a token, Blizzard hopes that it will combat third-party gold-selling services. In addition, they claim that it will give players a way to spend excess gold. They stated that, "The WoW Token was created to give players with lots of extra gold the option to use it to help cover their subscription cost, and give those who want to purchase gold a way to do so from fellow players through a secure, easy-to-use system."

Star Trek Online to Hold Tribute for Leonard Nimoy

After the recent passing of the legendary Vulcan, Leonard Nimoy, fans all around the world have showed their grief through various methods, including vigils and ceremonies. Cryptic Studios will be offering something more permanent for the man who touched many lives throughout his illustrious career.

According to Executive Producer Steve Ricossa, "the Star Trek Online team will implement a standing in-game memorial to Spock and Leonard Nimoy this Thursday March 5th with our regular weekly maintenance."

It is fitting that they will pay homage to a character who is so intertwined with the Star Trek mythos, and who spread ideals of peace and friendliness off camera.

Other games, such as Star Citizen and Elite:Dangerous will also be making their own tributes, as such an icon goes beyond just Star Trek alone.
