Star Trek Online Erects In-Game Memorial

After the death of Leonard Nimoy last week, there were numerous showings of support and remembrance throughout the world. Star Trek Online has just put up their personal memorial dedicated to the half-Vulcan, but also took it one step further. In addition to the statue erected in-game, Cryptic Studios also saw fit to have a plaque engraved with the names of other Star Trek members who have passed on into the great beyond. Live long and prosper, indeed.

Overwatch Announces Fall Beta

Overwatch, the upcoming battle arena game shown off at last year's Blizzcon has been progressing without any real information as to when it would come out. Well, fans need not hold their breaths any longer. Blizzard officially announced at PAX East that the game would be coming out in beta form Fall 2015. That means players will be able to play as any of the various characters already announced, including two more that were just revealed today.

The first is the outlaw cowboy McCree who favors his six-shooter "Peacekeeper". The second is the muscular female tank, Zarya. Known in the in-game universe as one of the world's strongest women, she is definitely no pushover. Fans should keep an eye out for more updates and sneak peeks from now until the beta is launched. And you can do that right here.

Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns Beta Announced

During PAX East this weekend, the staff at ArenaNet officially announced that there would be closed beta testing for Heart of Thorns coming very soon. While an official date was not announced, the Guild Wars 2 team stated that after attending Rezzed next weekend, "[they'll] start closed beta testing shortly after."

The words "closed beta" might cut deep in some of our readers, but there is no rigorous test to be added to the possible candidates. All you need to do is click this link and fill out the newsletter to opt into the closed beta. Winners will be notified via email, so make sure to use a valid one. Most importantly, entrants must also own the game in order to access the closed beta, but that's just common sense.

Testers will also receive an exclusive "Flashpoint Doomsday" costume as thanks for helping out.

Tree of Savior International Beta Update

Often referred to as the true successor to the ever popular MMORPG, Ragnarok Online, Tree of Savior has been slowly making progress in its country of development, Korea. However, international fans are often forced to paw at the scraps of information given by imcGAMES. This is why there was a big surprise earlier today when the legendary "Father of Korean Online Games" and CEO of imcGAMES, Kim Hakkyu posted an update himself on the official blog.

He talked about the current status of Tree of Savior's international test version, mostly elaborating on how the translation process was happening. Most importantly, he mentioned that while there is no confirmed date for the international test release, it would most likely happen after the second Korean closed beta test.

Rather than strive for 100% accuracy and thus delay development, Tree of Savior will use something called OTC (open text client) whereby testers can edit language packs stored client side as .tsv files (think spreadsheets) in plain text.

This is a novel attempt to crowd source translation work and promises not only to hasten English translation work, but also to make Tree of Savior available in dozens of smaller languages thanks to volunteers across the world.

The blog post also reveals that the company has not yet decided on an overseas server provider yet, but a strong candidate for the job is Amazon AWS. Players on the international service will also be able to log in securely and conveniently using their Facebook or Google+ accounts.

Daybreak Cuts Down EverQuest Gamemasters

Daybreak Games has seemingly sought fit to reduce the powers of their gamemasters in both EverQuest and EverQuest II. This is reflected in an updated support policy for EverQuest, which details when the gamemasters would not intervene. Many things that they were able to do before, such as fixing deleted items and restoring deleted characters, are now beyond their powers. The GMs will still be able to "assist with errors with the game and/or servers (such as crashes/rollbacks, zone down, etc)", so they are not completely powerless.

This may just be a sign of things to come for the EverQuest community, so stay tuned for any further updates.
